[文法] 什麼時候用 infinitive
有一題:
Societies acting through their governments make the rules _to state_ which acts
are illegal, but although war is the most violent of human activities, it has
not been declared illegal by any of the world's governments or their agencies.
(A) to state
(B) stating
答案是(B)因為要modify名詞("rules") 的話stating才idiomatic
可是之後另一份考題的改錯:
Nearly all of the editors of the magzine agree that of the two articles
(C)_to be published_, Fujimura's is the more exciting
我在做這題的時候是選(C)錯,因為上一題的經驗是不能用infinitive來形容名詞。
但是答案卻是(E)no error。官方的解釋是用infinitive的形式,to be published,來形容
articles是合適的。
我的問題是:什麼時候可以用infinitive的形式作形容詞,什麼時候不行呢? 我知道第二題
的 (C) 沒錯, 可是第一題的(A)跟(B)我看不出來差在哪裡.
