[單字] plunge
plunge 是動詞，有許多意思，我在oxford dictionary

例句：The earthquake plunged entire towns over the edge of the cliffs.
是指地震使整座城鎮掉入懸崖邊緣嗎？還是地震使整座城鎮陷入懸崖邊緣嗎？
（好像跟前一句意思差不多）
應該不是指 地震將懸崖邊緣的城鎮陷入地底下吧？？
對這個例句的理解有點模糊。還請指教。
另外，我想知道
"Plunge the lobsters, head first, into a large pot of rapidly boiling salted
water. " 出自是一個有名的美食評論家Craig寫的
有些網路字典拿這句當例句，我google沒有找到全文。
