[每日] siempre (adv) 總是
Spanish Word of the Day (Wednesday, January 28, 2009)
siempre, adverb
always
Apart from its core meaning of always, you can use siempre in a common phrase.
De siempre follows the noun or pronoun it refers to, and conveys the idea of
‘the usual.’ It can be neutral in tone. For instance, in a shop or restaurant
where you often go, you could ask for:
Lo de siempre, por favor.
(My usual, please.)
But de siempre often has negative connotations, and conveys the idea of the
same old ...
Protestan los de siempre.
(It’s the same people as usual protesting.)
Vino con el mismo cuento de siempre.
(He came out with the same old story.)
