[每日] subir (v) 爬升
Spanish Word of the Day (Thursday, January 29, 2009)
subir, verb
to go up; to come up
Subir is the opposite of bajar in many meanings, and, like bajar, conveys
the meaning of two English words. It covers both to go up and to come up.
Subimos la cuesta.
(We went up the hill.)
Sube, que te voy a enseñar unos DVD.
(Come up, I’ve got some DVDs to show you.)
Apart from those literal meanings referring to physical movement, subir can
also refer to non-literal movement:
Han subido mucho los precios.
(Prices have gone up a lot.)
La gasolina ha vuelto a subir.
(Petrol’s gone up (in price) again.)
