Spanish Word of the Day (Tuesday, February 17, 2009) llevarse, verb to get a surprise, to be surprised Apart from its core meanings of to carry and to wear, you can use llevar in the reflexive with a noun which describes an emotional reaction to something. For instance, llevarse una sorpresa is to get a surprise, to be surprised. Se va a llevar una gran sorpresa. (She’s going to get a big surprise.) Other emotion nouns which you can use in this pattern are un susto, a shock, and un chasco, a disappointment. Se llevó un susto cuando nos vio aparecer con los regalos. (He got a shock when he saw us appear with the presents.) Los estudiantes se llevaron un gran chasco al suspenderse el coloquio. (The students were very disappointed when the symposium was cancelled.) -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 122.116.111.182
