[每日] momento (n) 片刻
Spanish Word of the Day (Saturday, February 21, 2009)
momento, noun
moment, minute
Un momento corresponds to many uses of moment in English. For example:
La miró un momento.
(He looked at her for a moment.)
But notice the Spanish phrase en este momento:
En este momento no tengo ganas.
(At the moment I don’t feel like it.)
Un momento is also very useful when you need to tell someone to hang on
for a minute:
Espere un momento.
(Wait a minute.)
You can even use it in the diminutive form momentito, especially on the
phone:
Un momentito, por favor, que lo busco.
(Just a minute, please, I’ll go and get him.)
