鴕鳥真的會把頭埋在土裡嗎? 先看一個超可愛的短片吧 http://ppt.cc/vP@z (xination 的 blog 裡有這個影片，紅寶講解現在到 337 囉) M-W 每日一字 struthious (with podcast) http://ppt.cc/-tG( 英解 of or relating to the ostriches and related birds 這個字就是 ostrich 的形容詞。通常用引申義 "鴕鳥心態的"，指遇到問題只會逃避，像鴕鳥一樣把頭埋在土裡，不願意去面對。看個例句 The law is not so struthious as to compel a judge ... to divorce himself or herself from common sense or to ignore what is perfectly obvious. 在 Vulgar Latin 裡的鴕鳥就叫 avis struthio (ostrich bird)，後來有了 ostriz，最後才變成現在的 ostrich。鴕鳥的學名叫 Struthio camelus，屬 (genus) 名就是 struthio (拉丁文)。想更了解鴕鳥，請看 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostrich (Wikipedia 裡有豐富的照片，甚至影片，這樣的介紹很棒啊，不一定要全部看完，隨便看一兩段即可，如果今天 GRE 或 TOEFL 的閱讀考一篇介紹鴕鳥的文章，那你有看過不就很快可讀完並理解嗎?) 裏頭有提到 When lying down and hiding from predators, the birds lay their heads and necks flat on the ground, making them appear as a mound of earth from a distance. 原來，鴕鳥躺下休息或躲避獵食者時，會把它長長的脖子給放平在地上 (並不是埋下去)，使得敵人遠遠看只看到一小坨山丘 (鴕鳥的屁屁)。所以不要再說鴕鳥怕事了，鴕鳥哥會說: 我躺著也中槍XD -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.112.175.59
