Dear colleague,
I have an immediate opening for:
A PhD project entitled:
“Simulating how Channel Proteins are Seen through Multidimensional
IR Spectroscopy”
The project is focused at studying selectivity mechanisms of aquaporin
membrane channel proteins, employing recently-emerged two- and
three-dimensional infrared spectroscopy.
A novel theoretical platform will be developed that is crucial to realize
and interpret the experimental outcome. A potential candidate should have
hands-on experience with molecular dynamics simulations, and profound
interest in working closely with spectroscopists performing the experiment.
Deep understanding of light-matter interactions and quantum mechanics is
strongly beneficial.
Experience with programming is an advantage. The master degree in physics,
chemistry or biophysics (or equivalent) and excellent communication skills
in English are required. The position is first for one year.
After a positive assessment within the first year of your appointment,
the appointment will be prolonged with three more years.
You are supposed to have a thesis finished at the end of your four years
term. The position could start immediately. Women are encouraged to apply.
The research will take place in the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials
( http://www.rug.nl/fmns-research/zernike ) which is nationally ranked the
institute #1 by NWO (National Science Organization), and ranked worldwide
#4th amongst Materials Research institutes by impact of its publications
(#1st in Europe) by Thomson Reuters' Research Analytics.
