: 疑問: 為什麼答案是B而不是A呢? The year指那一年的時間,所以不可以用何時when嗎?

: 因此老師告訴我們，後面子句缺主詞or受詞時，前面要有關代

因為很詳細，所以要有點耐心看完
詳解：
本句應用到關係子句來修飾 The years
去除掉關係子句後，原句簡而言之就是
The years were the most worthwhile of my life.
而關代which用來代替先行詞the years，並且在關係子句中作為受詞
（註：一般關代who, which, that在後面的關係子句中可為受詞或主詞）
關係子句還原後則可表示成
I spent the years working with the children's home.
以國中文法的教法，就是要你合併句子：
{The years were the most worthwhile of my life.
{I spent the years working with the children's home.
另外針對你的疑問：為何不是 A (先行詞 時間 搭配 when ???)
如果中間填when，本句寫成
The years when I spent working with the children's home were the most
worthwhile of my life.
此時關係子句中的動詞spent就沒有受詞
也無法解釋為 I spent working with the children's home為「花工作在小孩的房子上
」
不僅句意不通，也應該要 用介係詞on ----- spend working "on" the....
總而言之，本句中應將the years作為關係子句中 spent(花掉) 的受詞

文法上其實是有的，而且是很普遍的
例：the day 作為先行詞
I can never forget the day [on which] I met Terry. 我永遠忘不了遇見泰瑞的那天
==>I can never forget the day [when] I met Terry.
另外推文中的二樓 b1acat :WHEN是連接詞~不是關代
這句話還要再補充一些東西。
When是連接詞，也是關係副詞、疑問副詞。但不是關係代名詞
連接詞：[When] you are hungry, please let me know.
關係副詞：I can never forget the day [when] I met Terry.
疑問副詞：
一般問句 [When] will you go?
間接問句 I don't know [when] you will go.
回到原本的問題，我們也可以用關係副詞when來改寫
The years [when I worked with my children's home] were the most worthwhile
of my life.
