attempting是動名詞基本上還是要有某個人來執行動作會比較合理. 因此在這邊如果用(D) 會遇到兩個問題. (1) despite + N, 如果有適當的名詞attempts可以選當然是選名詞. (2) 就算前方把despite改成像是although/while等從屬子句的方式. 後方的主
