De Montfort University 學校在1870年成立之初，
就是萊斯特藝術學校（Leicester School of Art）
後來又引入建築、工程學等科目。
因此藝術設計學院發展至今也超過140年，作為新型的大學，和傳統的英國大學不同，
DMU更加著重於未來職業發展所需的專業教育培養，像是：
