[Talk] The Handmaid's Tale
I am now reading a book called "The Handmaid's Tale",
written by Margaret Atwood. This is a kind of furturist
fiction. The main scene is set in a postwar time. The real
time frame is unknown (or that I've not read about yet).
After the war, women became sterile. So the few available
fertile women are used as mating stock, living in compounds
ruled by a group of staff of Commanders. These women are called
Handmaids, whose main function is to mate with the Commanders
and bear their children.
I just started this book, so what I know about this book is
mostly from the introduction on the backcover. This book appeals
to me because it reflects some realities that have taken plce
in our world, and it riches in different thoughts from what we
think about the world where we live. Hopefully I can finish this
book soon, though it is not an easy read. By the way, this
fiction was already adapted for a movie with the same name.
