http://tw.news.yahoo.com/article/url/d/a/090114/1/1cysy.html I saw this news on the Gossip board, and it first reminds me of the multiplication of a species in an environment with limited resources. Let's make it as simple as possible, say, the bacteria grow in the medium. They compete with each other for nutrients and space, and since they are not in full supply, the number of cells won't increase without restraint. It has a potential ceiling. So if you make a plot of the growing curve, it will show a regular fluctuation--when the creature hasn't reached the capacity of the environment, it grows; when the capacity has been reached, it dies down; when the environment has gradually regenerated the resources available, those creatures will increase again. Compare it to the human behavior. Males pursue a female. Since the female couldn't handle, or respond adequately to all those pursuant, no matter what they want from her, there msut be a breaking point where some of them want to pull out. So the pressure on the female is relieved a bit, which allows her to "recharge." And the cycle will repeat. But maybe I can try to think of another example which would be more close to it. The economic behavior. When an item is on the hotlist, its price keeps on skyrocketing. Some choose to jump into the fray. Some choose to hold their horses and watch. So they seem to be similar.
