Hi, I'm Claire. Have been a long time not introduce myself in English. Haha.. I would like to say that I feel so great to find the board that everyone chats, talks, shares or asks things they want here. I never found it since i've used ptt for couple years. > <" I used to study in Cincinnati, Ohio and had been back to Taiwan for one more year. Feeling pity that seldom oppotunities to be able to speak English due to environment of Taiwan. Happy to be here to introduce a little bit about myself to everyone. I live in Taichung, and 24 years old which formal things need to be mentioned At last, nice to meet everyone here no matter what reason makes you here. For learning, improving or just like it, or others. Let's make ourselves better here. :) The End! -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 175.182.41.151

10/25 16:47, 1F

10/25 16:47, , 2F
your english seems pretty poor. but anyways nice to mee
10/25 16:47, 2F

10/25 16:47, , 3F
t you :) and well i live in Taichung too.
10/25 16:47, 3F

*offense*; agree with poor grammar; but glad to see
10/25 22:52, 5F

10/25 22:52, , 6F
more people showing up in this forum
10/25 22:52, 6F

10/26 02:10, , 7F
well actually "offence" is the british spelling while "o
10/26 02:10, 7F

10/26 02:10, , 8F
ffense" is the american. its like "license" and "licence
10/26 02:10, 8F

10/26 02:10, , 9F
" same thing different spelling.
10/26 02:10, 9F

10/26 10:36, , 10F
Most people learn "American English" though.
10/26 10:36, 10F

10/26 10:36, , 11F
For example, most people say "sweaters" not jumpers
10/26 10:36, 11F

10/26 10:37, , 12F
But I guess words like "colour" or offence are more
10/26 10:37, 12F

10/26 10:38, , 13F
acceptable now
10/26 10:38, 13F

10/27 07:17, , 14F
be nice.
10/27 07:17, 14F

10/29 10:13, , 15F
How do you expect people not to be offended when
10/29 10:13, 15F

10/29 10:13, , 16F
you say something like that?...pretty insensitive
10/29 10:13, 16F

10/29 10:14, , 17F
if you ask me
10/29 10:14, 17F

10/29 10:14, , 18F
Welcome Claire :)
10/29 10:14, 18F

10/30 02:15, , 19F
why would anyone say "no offense" when the thing they're
10/30 02:15, 19F

10/30 02:15, , 20F
about to say isn't at all offensive?
10/30 02:15, 20F

10/30 02:22, , 21F
"no offense but you're a good singer."
10/30 02:22, 21F

10/30 02:22, , 22F
"no offense but you're beautiful."
10/30 02:22, 22F

10/30 02:23, , 23F
right..makes perfect sense
10/30 02:23, 23F

10/30 06:00, , 24F
no offence, but you really want to offend ppl.
10/30 06:00, 24F

10/30 06:23, , 25F
Not sure you read the comments correctly.
10/30 06:23, 25F

10/30 06:23, , 26F
1st person said no offense and criticized Claire's
10/30 06:23, 26F

10/30 06:24, , 27F
poor grammar. I commented on the spelling, and he
10/30 06:24, 27F

10/30 06:25, , 28F
said it's "British spelling". And I said most people
10/30 06:25, 28F

10/30 06:26, , 29F
learn "American English", not British English.
10/30 06:26, 29F

10/31 21:33, , 30F
LOL Ryuce, thanks a lot for your examples, but what
10/31 21:33, 30F

10/31 21:34, , 31F
has it got to do with what YOU said?
10/31 21:34, 31F

10/31 21:35, , 32F
"um no offence but for someone who has studied in
10/31 21:35, 32F

10/31 21:35, , 33F
America your english seems pretty poor"...So you
10/31 21:35, 33F

10/31 21:36, , 34F
don't think people would be offended by what you
10/31 21:36, 34F

10/31 21:36, , 35F
said? It's quite a harsh thing to say to someone
10/31 21:36, 35F

10/31 21:37, , 36F
who's new to the board and even made the effort to
10/31 21:37, 36F

10/31 21:38, , 37F
introduce themselves to everyone. SO WHAT if their
10/31 21:38, 37F

10/31 21:38, , 38F
grammar isn't perfect? It's so important that you
10/31 21:38, 38F

10/31 21:39, , 39F
felt the need to point that out in public?
10/31 21:39, 39F

10/31 21:39, , 40F
Ridiculous.
10/31 21:39, 40F

10/31 21:40, , 41F
So I guess you wouldn't be offended if I said "no
10/31 21:40, 41F

10/31 21:41, , 42F
offence Ryuce, but you're a jerk"?
10/31 21:41, 42F

10/31 21:43, , 43F
Btw nkotb131, there's nothing wrong with using
10/31 21:43, 43F

10/31 21:43, , 44F
British English in Taiwan, even though majority of
10/31 21:43, 44F

10/31 21:44, , 45F
the people uses American English.
10/31 21:44, 45F

10/31 22:06, , 46F
"No offense" is just a polite way to criticize,
10/31 22:06, 46F

10/31 22:06, , 47F
doesn't mean it's not offensive or harsh
10/31 22:06, 47F

10/31 22:07, , 48F
and he was right in saying that a person who
10/31 22:07, 48F

10/31 22:07, , 49F
had lived in America for so long still uses poor
10/31 22:07, 49F

10/31 22:08, , 50F
grammar. Besides, without criticism, how will anyone
10/31 22:08, 50F

10/31 22:08, , 51F
improve? Sure, people can use nicer words, but
10/31 22:08, 51F

10/31 22:08, , 52F
rude comments are just as effective
10/31 22:08, 52F

10/31 22:51, , 53F
But who are we to criticize others?
10/31 22:51, 53F

10/31 23:27, , 54F
Why don't you ask yourself that same exact question sinc
10/31 23:27, 54F

10/31 23:27, , 55F
e, ironically, you are criticizing me for criticizing ot
10/31 23:27, 55F

10/31 23:27, , 56F
hers. Face it, you're no different.
10/31 23:27, 56F

10/31 23:35, , 57F
I've sent a PM to the OP apologizing for my comments
10/31 23:35, 57F

10/31 23:36, , 58F
so let's just end this here
10/31 23:36, 58F

10/31 23:42, , 59F
or would you rather continue?
10/31 23:42, 59F

11/01 05:11, , 60F
We should end it here. Sorry that this had dragged on
11/01 05:11, 60F

11/01 05:11, , 61F
for song long
11/01 05:11, 61F

11/01 22:55, , 62F
Yes you're right, in this instance, I'm no
11/01 22:55, 62F

11/01 22:55, , 63F
different; but why would I be discreet with someone
11/01 22:55, 63F

11/01 22:56, , 64F
who bluntly lashed out at others in the first
11/01 22:56, 64F

11/01 22:56, , 65F
place? It sucks when you're the one that's been
11/01 22:56, 65F

11/01 22:57, , 66F
criticized by a stranger in public doesn't it? My
11/01 22:57, 66F

11/01 22:57, , 67F
point made.
11/01 22:57, 67F

11/01 22:58, , 68F
Alright let's move on. Have a good weekend everyone
11/01 22:58, 68F

11/02 00:47, , 69F
to me ilovepasta, youre just making a big deal out of
11/02 00:47, 69F

11/02 00:48, , 70F
this. i mean ryuce obviously wasnt tryin to be offensiv
11/02 00:48, 70F

11/02 12:25, , 71F
What's the big deal?
11/02 12:25, 71F

11/02 12:26, , 72F
Maybe he wasn't trying to be offensive, but I
11/02 12:26, 72F

11/02 12:26, , 73F
thought what he said was quite insensitive.
11/02 12:26, 73F

11/02 14:53, , 74F
*conclusion* iwbyaf:should improve English
11/02 14:53, 74F

11/02 14:54, , 75F
ryuce: insensitive
11/02 14:54, 75F

11/02 14:54, , 76F
ilovepasta: too sensitive
11/02 14:54, 76F

11/02 20:04, , 77F
The title here is intro not please check my grammar
11/02 20:04, 77F

11/02 20:07, , 78F
If your foreigner friend introduces himself in mandarin
11/02 20:07, 78F

11/02 20:09, , 79F
Will you say something of the same insensitivity in pub
11/02 20:09, 79F

11/02 20:12, , 80F
Foreign
11/02 20:12, 80F

11/02 20:17, , 81F
There is a better way to show off ones superiority
11/02 20:17, 81F

11/03 10:40, , 82F
KAIDO8:Thinks he knows it all XD
11/03 10:40, 82F

11/05 14:52, , 83F
can't agree with you more, oldmei.
11/05 14:52, 83F

11/05 18:53, , 84F
well...I don't think Ryuce really wants to be
11/05 18:53, 84F

11/05 18:53, , 85F
offensive
11/05 18:53, 85F

11/05 18:54, , 86F
But yea, i agree when people starts a sentence with
11/05 18:54, 86F

11/05 18:54, , 87F
"no offense", i be pissed off too
11/05 18:54, 87F

11/05 18:55, , 88F
it pretty much implies that you realize what you're
11/05 18:55, 88F

11/05 18:55, , 89F
saying is potentially offensive
11/05 18:55, 89F

11/05 18:58, , 90F
but if you feel the need to start a sentence with
11/05 18:58, 90F

11/05 18:59, , 91F
no offense, sugar coat what youre gonna say, so it
11/05 18:59, 91F

11/05 19:00, , 92F
don't come off as harsh
11/05 19:00, 92F
----------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi, Claire again. Well, i dont know how to deal with the situation. Really feel sorry for bringing an arguement. Im appreciated for everyone who gave comments here. Indeed, I felt a little bit sad in the beginning cuz i didnt find the grammar errors I made until I just came here to see my article again. "What a suck grammar i used!" comes up to my mind. Sorry.. i think I was really tired at that day so that I didnt know what a stupid grammar I used. The really poor grammar makes me belly laugh Besides, I wanna say again that I thank who welcame me and who tried to correct my English. I wont say Im good cuz i stayed in America for a while. Continue learning and impoving English will be the thing for my all life. If I make any mistake for my grammar or something, plz dont hesitate to correct me, but no more arguement please. Feel so sorry for that >"< Be peaceful. ※ 編輯: iwbyaf 來自: 175.182.41.151 (11/05 23:43)
