[字彙] timidity & temerity
"Timidity" and "temerity" look alike, but they somewhat have opposite
meanings.
I think "timidity" has already been included in you guys' vocabulary;
however I just quote its definition in order to present the oppositeness.
------
timidity: 1. lacking in self-assurance, courage, or bravery; easily alarmed;
timorous; shy.
2. characterized by or indicating fear
-----
temerity: reckless boldness; rashness.
-----
"Boldness" is related to "bravery," which is the opposite of "timidity."
But note that it is "reckless boldness," of bold deeds done without a second
thought or done rashly.
