文章: http://ppt.cc/tng5 文章標題: Chongqing express 重慶特快車只談小標、某幾段的好字前提，經濟學人的立場是偏綠 (自己看就懂了)*。首先是首頁連結的小標 Taiwan fears economic interdependence will succeed for China where sabre-rattling failed 什麼是 sabre-rattling 呢? sabre 是軍刀 (真相: http://ppt.cc/HesR )， rattle 就是響尾蛇 (rattlesnake) 那個 rattle，指 "發出咯咯聲"，可以想像 "拿著軍刀在空氣中揮舞發出的聲音"。所以 sabre-rattling 就是 "武力威脅" "武力恫嚇" 但此字是有脈絡的，請看英解 If you describe a threat, especially a threat of military action, as sabre-rattling, you do not believe that the threat will actually be carried out. 這種武力威脅是玩假的，透過武力威脅達到政治、經濟目的才是真的，像南北韓、台灣與大陸，戰爭不太可能發生，因為沒有任何一方承擔的起，這種 "放話" 就是 sabre-rattling。還記得誰最喜歡講中國大陸在沿海又佈署了多少顆飛彈瞄準台灣呢? 小標裡的 succeed 是 "成功" 的意思，和後面的 fail 相對，意思是中國對台灣用武力威脅失效後，台灣擔心中國的經濟連結策略是否會成功。 (感謝 pentimento 提點) ****** 再來講第二段 Three days earlier, chanting opposition to unification with China, tens of thousands of protesters massed outside the Taipei office of Taiwan's president, the KMT's Ma Ying-jeou. One placard, with a doctored image of Mr Ma kissing the cheek of China's president, Hu Jintao, scolded: "Don't embrace the enemy." 只講第三行後面的 doctored，各位觀眾! 你 "生目珠掛目眉" (台語) 有看過 doctor 當動詞用嗎? 這裡就出現了。GRE 閱讀裡如果考這個 doctored 的意思最接近於哪個字，你答得出來嗎? doctor 當動詞都是 "負面" 的意思英解 to change something in order to deceive somebody "竄改" "偽造" 的意思 = falsify 例句 He was accused of doctoring the figures. 他被指控竄改數據。所以當一個醫生偽造病人的病歷時，嗯...他其實是在實現 doctor 這個動作。因為馬總統並沒有真的親胡錦濤，所以那張海報 (placard) 當然是 doctored 的。 ****** 講倒數第二段 Formulating a strategy for dealing with China will be one of the DPP's hardest tasks. Harping on about the ECFA may not go down well with voters if the risks the DPP stresses do not materialise. The government predicts GDP will grow by more than 6% this year after contracting by nearly 2% in 2009. Exports to China, which buys more than 40% of Taiwan's total exports, have been helping to power this recovery. 第二行中 Harping on ... 是什麼意思? harp 當名詞是 "豎琴" (真相: http://ppt.cc/HiJ, ) 但 GRE 會考這個名詞解嗎? 絕對不會，而是考動詞用法 harp on (about) sth. 喋喋不休地討論某事英解 to keep talking about something in a boring or annoying way 經濟學人提醒民進黨，對 ECFA 所造成的可能危害喋喋不休地討論，不見得爭取得到選民的認同，萬一這些危害並沒有實現 (materialize = realize)，無疑是自打嘴巴，反而被說是唱衰台灣。 ****** *第七段中間 ─in which opinion polls suggested she came off better─ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ 馬總統與蔡主席針對 ECFA 辯論的民調有顯示出蔡主席辯論的較佳嗎? 經濟學人是看哪一份民調呢? -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.112.175.59
