從拉丁文 congerere 來，意思是 to carry or bring together
這個字從拉丁文到英文字形、字義都沒有變。
有相同情形 (拉丁到英文字形字義不變) 的字還有
epitome (n) 典範
circus (n) 馬戲團 (比較: caucus 黨團，有時候黨團像馬戲團)
tribunal (n) 特別法庭
另外值得一提的是 congeries 長得像複數 (-ies) 但其實是單數，
它的複數型也是 congeries
例句很不錯
As we walked past the food stalls our nostrils were assailed by a
congeries of exotic, unfamiliar smells.
聞到不好聞的味道你會怎麼說，作家會寫 "鼻孔被攻擊"，多生動啊。
當然這裡的 assail 不是 "攻擊" 的意思，而是 "困擾"
