IELTS Reading --- Heading Matching (標題配對題) The Coral Reefs of Agatti Island A Agatti is one of the Lakshadweep Islands off the southwest coast of India. These islands are surrounded by lagoons and coral reefs which are in turn surrounded by the open ocean. Coral reefs, which are formed from the skeletons of minute sea creatures, give shelter to a variety of plants and animals, and therefore have the potential to provide a stream of diverse benefits to the inhabitants of Agatti Island. E The investment required to exploit the reefs is minimal. It involves simple, locally available tools and equipment, some of which can be used without a boat, such as the fishing practice known as Kat moodsal. This is carried out in the shallow eastern lagoon of Agatti by children and adults, close to shore at low tide, throughout the year. A small cast net, a leaf bag, and plastic slippers are all that are required, and the activity can yield 10-12 small fish (approximately 1 kg) for household consumption. Cast nets are not expensive, and all the households in Agatti own at least one. Even the boats, which operate in the lagoon and near-shore reef, are constructed locally and have low running costs. They are either small, non-mechanised, traditional wooden rowing boats, known as Thonis, or rafts, known as Tharappam. Reading Passage 1 has nine paragraphs A-I. Paragraph E _______________ 一般而言, 測考之篇章皆由數段落所組織而成, 而每一段文章由主要論點 (main idea) 與輔助解釋說明及例證之次要之支持論點 (supporting idea) 組成。首先根據選項 (answer choices) 進行分析, 找到其關鍵詞彙在原文中之位置, 因既然為標題 (heading) 應在段首或段尾處 ; 此外, 觀察段落之出現頻率高之詞彙亦指本文之主體論述。 1. A 段落: 首句 Agatti 座落於印度西南海岸外的 Lakshadweep 群島之一. 這些群島由環礁(lagoon) 與珊瑚礁所圍繞著. 段落尾句提及: 珊瑚礁 (coral reefs), 乃是由微小之海洋生物所形成, 提供各式各樣動物與植物的庇護棲息處; 因此, 得以提供於 Agatti 島上居民各種好處. 此段落前提到相關地理位置, 後敘述其優勢之處. 故而答案為V.
