Affective Expressions - あくまで
あくまで completely, totally, stubbornly, to the last.
Explanation: In its basic meaning, あくまで means complete or filled up.
In referring to responsibility, for example, it means to take
responsibility completely. As an affective expression, it is used to
indicate some action that is complete or total, or tenaciously held,
or one that will continue to the very end. A sense of being stubborn or
determined is conveyed by this expressions, which is really a logical
extension of its basic meaning.
Examples:
Section A
自分の言動にはあくまで責任を取らなければなりません.
you must take responsibliity completely for your own words and actions.
事件の容疑者はあくまで「自分は白だ」と言い張っている.
The suspect in the case stubbornly protected saying, "i am totally innocent."
私達住民は高層ビルの建設にあくまで反對です.
We local residents are absoltely opposed to the construction of the
high-rise building.
Section B
これはあくまで私の個人的な意見ですが.
well, this is purely my personal opinion.
あくまで反定として言っているのですが.
This is simply an assumption on my part.
あくまで想像にすぎませんが.
This is nothing more than a guess.
