Good thinking.
Basically, it is student's PhD. If there is no other contract (e.g.
sponsorship related to your current project), it is no point to intervene too
much.
The other problem is, who will be your new supervisor? Have you found one?
If you have not, you got to make things more realistic...
If you have, seek help from him/her.

Not really.
You can lose somthing and get some others.
When God shuts down a window, a door will be opened for you.
Just you have to get off the seat and find it out.
