Post-doctoral research position in antarctic climatemodelling
POSITION: Postdoctoral Fellow
PROJECT: Study of the Ross Sea climate system using a coupled regional
atmosphere / sea-ice / ocean model
SUBJECT AREA: Coupled regional climate model development and applications
QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in dynamical meteorology or physical ocenography.
Skill in numerical modeling.
DURATION: 1 year
START DATE: Early 2008 (no later than september 2008)
NET SALARY: 1834euros/month
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The objectives of the proposed work is to contribute (i) to the study of
Ross Sea polynyas and (ii) to validate the coupled atmosphere / sea -
ice / ocean regional model TANGO for the last 20 years.
TANGO has been developed by LGGE and MEOM from the regional atmospheric
climate model MAR (developed by LGGE) and the ocean sea ice model NEMO
(set - up by MEOM). It will be run with an horizontal resolution of 10
km . A particular attention with be given to the atmosphere - sea ice -
ocean interactions influencing polynya's dynamics and the formation of
Antarctic bottom water. The regional models will be forced at its
boundaries by ECMWF re-analyses for the atmospheric component and ocean
sea-ice hindcast carried out by the DRAKKAR project for the ocean
components.
The postdoctoral associate will be involved in the team performing long
term simulations with TANGO. His main task will be to analyse the
results of the 20-years simulation and to contribute to the improvment
of the coupled modelling system.
The project is developed in collaboration with the international DRAKKAR
project.
