Postdoctoral Researcher Position in RNA Biology, Cancer Biology, and Neuroscience The Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute San Diego, California, United States Available immediately for highly motivated recent Ph.D.s and/or M.D.s with strong training in neuroscience, molecular and cell biology, RNA biology, cancer biology to lead projects on the role of mRNA modification in human disease. mRNA modification or RNA epitransncriptomics is a new research field with numerous complex questions remain to be answered. My lab focuses on the most abundant mRNA modification, namely N6-methyladenosine or m6A. We identified a protein complex that governs m6A formation (Nature Cell Biology 16 (2): 191-8, Feb. 2014). Using loss-of-function studies, we reported the requirement of m6A in brain development (Nature Neuroscience 21 (2): 195-206, Feb. 2018). Mechanistically, we discovered that m6A regulates gene expression via shortening mRNA half-life or crosstalk with histone modifications. Currently, we are investigating roles of m6A mRNA modification in cancer and in neurological disorders aiming to develop m6A-based therapeutics. Strong publication record and training to perform independent research are required for further consideration. Successful Candidates will be part of a stimulating and collaborative scientific environment with cutting-edge instrumentation and facilities. Applicants should send CV and names and addresses of three references to czhao@sbpdiscovery.org. We offer a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package. For immediate consideration: Please submit a CV, 3 reference names or letters, and a cover letter to Dr. Crystal Zhao (czhao@sbpdiscovery.org) Associate Professor 10901 N.
