Do you want to see the cellular structure, collagen fibers, and blood flow in your skin? If you have interests, please finish reading this mail.... We are from the UltraFast Opitcs lab, UFO lab, of Graduate Institute Photonics and Optoelectronics, National Taiwan University. We are now developing a Higher Harmonic Generation Microscopic imaging system based on laser scanning and nonlinear optics. This imaging system has the advantages of least-invasiveness, sub-micron spatical resolution (able to see the cellular structure), and high penetrability. It has the ability to reveal the microscopic structures of the biological tissues and could potentially be applied for in vivo (live) human imaging and noninvasive disease diagnosis in the futrue. To achieve the future goal, this imaging system has been previously applied on various animal models such as zebrafish embryos and mice for preliminary studies. In last year, in vivo (live) human imaging of skin has been first time performed on 5 Chinese volunteers. During the investigation, which lasted for 30mins, volunteers can see the cellular structures, collagen fibers and also the blood flow in their skin. Through physicians' monitoring and inspection, no pains and no damages occurred during and after the experiment. In volunteers' opinions, the procedure was comfortable and the results were very impressive. In our next step, we want to perform the in vivo human imaging of the skin with different color to discover the potential of our system. We now need people with various skin color from white to black and need your great help to be our volunteers.
