.一、內文:
Business leaders think the centre of Christchurch may have to be completely
rebuilt, with commercial high-rise buildings moved farther out, after last
Tuesday’s devastating earthquake in New Zealand’s second-largest city.
The 6.3 magnitude quake has left most of the city’s central business
district in ruins, and on Sunday the number of confirmed dead had risen to
147, with police saying they expected the final toll to pass 200.

1. Christchurch:基督城，completely(adv): 完整地，rebuilt(adj):重建的，
high-rise: 高樓大廈，farther(adj、adv):更遠的(地)，devastating(adj):致命的，
magnitude(N):大小，district(N):區，ruin(N):廢墟，confirm(V):確認，toll(N):費用
、死亡人數。
2. call for:呼籲，受到震災影響，全毀的商業大樓有商界人士要求乾脆completely
rebuilt（全面重建），在災情本身，則在最後一段提及（超過200人）。
3. business leaders要求重建，讓建物本身commercial high-rise buildings（高樓大
廈）遷址，當然最熱鬧的地區是在central business district（市區精華地段），因此
整起新聞與地震有關，這裡的magnitude（震度）當然就順便補充，以便讓讀者知道，商
業區遷址的重要性與迫切性。
4. 在閱讀測驗時，看到devastating（致命性的）就要馬上與magnitude（震度）聯想在
