一、 研究指出,早上發生心臟病,比較危險。 二、 內文: Heart attacks that occur in the early morning may be more serious than those that occur later in the day, a new study suggests. The results show that people who have heart attacks between 6 a.m. and noon have about 20 percent more damage to their heart tissue than those who have heart attacks at other times of the day. It is already well established that heart attacks are more likely to happen in the morning than other times of the day, but the latest study is the first to show that they are also more severe at this time of day. Analysing data on 811 patients admitted to the Hospital Clinico San Carlos in Madrid, they measured the amount of dead heart tissue left by attacks. The size of the dead area, or "infarct", was calculated by looking at levels of enzymes in the patients. Timing of heart attacks was divided into four six-hour periods running in phase with 24-hour circadian rhythms. Judging by the blood enzyme levels, the researchers estimate that the area of the heart damaged in the morning group was, on average, a fifth larger in comparison. Judy O'Sullivan, senior cardiac nurse at the British Heart Foundation, said: "Regardless of the time of day, the quicker someone having a heart attack is treated, the less the damage they will have, which is why it is essential that anyone who experiences heart attack symptoms should call 999 immediately." Of the 811 patients, 269 had their heart attacks in the period from 6:00 am to noon. More than three-quarters of the patients admitted to the clinic were men. Their average age was 62. The findings should be useful in assessing the effectiveness of drugs against heart disease, the researchers said. 三、 多益英檢文法整理 1. heart attack:心臟病,occur(V):發生,damage(V、N):破壞,tissue(N): 組織,established(adj):已確認的,severe(adj):嚴重的,admitted(V):被送往, infarct(N):梗塞,enzyme(N):酶,timing(N):特定時間,divide into:區分,in phase: 協調,circadian:生理節奏,comparison(N):比較,cardiac(adj):心血管的, regardless(adv):不顧,essential(adj):必要的,symptom(N):症狀, immediately(adv):立即地,clinic(N):診所、醫院,assess(V):評估, effectiveness(N):效果,against(介):對抗。 2. 這篇文章主角圍繞在heart(心臟),因此包括heart attack(心臟病), heart tissue(心臟組織),severe(嚴重程度),infarct(梗塞),enzyme(酶),blood enzyme(血液中的酶)以及symptom(症狀)等都跟心臟有關。 3. 發生心臟病,V有occur與happen, occurrence(N):發生的事情, A. The idea occurred to him in a dream. (這個主意在他夢中出現過。) B. Just plug it in and see what happens. (把插頭插上,看看會怎麼樣。) C. Burglar used to be a rare occurrence here.
