About the Washington State Nautical Museum The Washington State Nautical Museum Society is dedicated to preserving ships and nautical artifacts. We collect, restore and display ships and artifacts related to the seafaring history of Washington State, with particular emphasis on the development of Seattle as a pioneer port settlement. The museum is operated by a group of dedicated volunteers who freely donate their own skills to creating and maintaining a dynamic museum for the education and enjoyment of the public at large. The museum represents a continuing work in progress. Browse the museum on your own, or have one of our tour guides show you around. Our hours of operation are 10:00 am to 6:00 pm during summer hours, and 11:00 am to 4:00 pm the rest of the year. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, and children to age 12,accompanied by an adult, are admitted free of charge. Special group rates are also available on request. Financial support for the Museum's work comes from several sources. Assistance for construction of the museum building was provided by the State Government, and the waterfront land and moorings are provided by the Port of Seattle on a nominal cost lease. The local municipality provides annual assistance by waiving property taxes. Several restorations and research projects are funded by City of Seattle Heritage Trust grants and from Washington State Gaming Commission Casino revenue. Additional funds for the restoration of a nineteenth-century naval schooner to seafaring condition have been provided by the Millennium Fund and State Government grants in Olympia. Expenses are met through memberships, Founding Patron donations, general donations, entrance fees and gift shop sales. The Washington State Nautical Museum is registered with the Federal Government, and may receive specific bequests and legacies and issue receipts for donations of cash or materials. 156.
