https://www.jobs.ac.uk/job/BOY045/phd-in-physics-engineering We are currently recruiting to fully funded PhD studentships (see list of examples below). If not stated otherwise in the individual project descriptions, for eligible students the studentship (normally 4 years, total value approx. £105,000) will cover UK/EU tuition fees, plus an annual tax-free stipend of about 16,500 per year, or pro rata for part-time study, plus a Research and Training Support Grant (RTSG) of £13,000. UK/EU tuition fees and RTSG only for international students. About us Exeter has a well-established and strong track record in functional materials and metamaterials research, spanning a unique mix of interests in our focus areas: Acoustic, Phononic and Fluidic Metamaterials Microwave and RF Metamaterials and Devices Nanocomposites and Manufacturing Photonic and Plasmonic Materials Soft Matter, Biomaterials and Sensors Spintronics, Magnonics and Magnetic Materials Theory and Modelling to drive Targeted Material and Device Design Two Dimensional Electronic and Photonic Materials We have long standing experience with doctoral training through our CDT in Metamaterials with a total of over 80 PhD students. The Centre opened its doors in September 2014 and now consists of more than 80 PhD students (Postgraduate Researchers, PGRs) from the UK, the EU and beyond, who are training in a stimulating, challenging yet supportive cohort-based environment. Our first graduates finished their PhD in 2018 and went on into employment in industry (e.g. QinetiQ and Metaboards) and as postdocs in Higher Education Institutions in- and outside of the UK. Thanks to our industrial partners and the commitment from our College we can now offer fully funded PhD studentships for start in September 2019. The studentships will be aligned to our CDT in Metamaterials, hence benefitting from enhanced technical and transferable skills training and exposure to a variety of companies. Project examples are: Antenna efficiency and match manipulation using metamaterials (3442) Chalcogenide-based memory and logic for flexible electronics applications (3447) Design and Manufacture of Broadband 3D Multilayer Metamaterials for Microwave and mm-wave Application (3444) Experimental topics in the manipulation of sound using metamaterials and metasurfaces (3441) Exploring the space of electromagnetic materials, with applications to antenna design (3445) Manipulating the coupling and scattering between surface waves and plane waves on metasurfaces, and at their discontinuities (3446) More projects will be coming up during February 2019. This list will be regularly updated with a few more opportunities coming up soon - Watch this space: http://emps.exeter.ac.uk/metamaterials/apply/opportunities/ The application deadline is 30 April 2019. However, interviews are expected to start from February 2019. It is therefore advisable to apply as soon as possible. Who we are looking for The successful candidates are team players, willing to contribute their individual strengths to the wider research community. They are keen to gain knowledge and experience beyond their individual research project. We look for pro-active self-starters with a clear vision on why they would like to study for a PhD in Phusics/Engineering and how they would like to use the PhD studentship and training opportunities available at Exeter to work towards their future careers (for example in industry, academia, or governmental institutions). -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc), 來自: 129.12.24.112 ※ 文章網址: https://www.ptt.cc/bbs/AdvEduUK/M.1548703575.A.408.html
