[請益] 原文書中的斜體字
請問一下，有時候讀原文小說或教科書，
常常會有一、兩個字，字體不太一樣，變成斜體，
是有什麼作用嗎？
本來我以為可能是重點，可是看多了，又實在不覺得有重要到哪去，
舉一個例子，下面節錄一小段原文書中的句子，黃色字體代表斜體字：
We make up rules when we need them, and discard them when we don't.
Then when do we need them?
又如小說中一段：
I do not need to bend and measure the footprints and pick up the
cigarette ends and examine the bent blades of grass. It is enough
for me to sit back and think.
為什麼會在do和think要斜體呢？有什麼作用嗎？
