I had met a friendly old lady on a train in Switzerland. She didn't speak
English, while I spoke neither German nor French. But we still held a pretty
long "chat" by drawings and body languages. During the train ride, the lady
told us that there was a terrible earthquake taking place, which caused the
landslide. With her pencil and paper, she tried very hard to let me know
that rocks and tree trunks once blocked the railroad due to the quake.
Well, my point is, like you said, body languages really works.
By the way, when I utter the only German word I had learn, "Danke,"
she said "bravo" before I felt a little sense of achievement.
