Old wisdom has taught us that politics are not a good topic for small talk. Being a student not so in to politics, I could not grasp the severity of the problem... until now! Especially with the chaotic Taiwan politics, you can see how it manipulates people. Take my mom for example. She and my dad have always had different political stances, but before, she would always ignore the issues and let my dad continue on about his political views. But as Election Day came nearer, the atmosphere at home grew tense. They seldom talked to each other, and whenever they did it usually ended up in a quarrel. And since any conversation may very well end up hostile, political talk-shows became staple routine. Personally, I do not object watching political talk-shows. I acknowledge that politics is a very important part of life and these shows do shed some light on what is really going on (behind all the marketing gift-wrapping). But I find it interesting that some people (including my mom) pick a political talk-show that is heavily biased towards their own political preference. On the shows you can see the publicist's sarcastic remarks on the counter party and the host does not give "the enemy" opportunity to explain themselves. The result is a show where two or three people yell at one, and that lone-ranger gets cut-off whenever he tries to defend himself. I do not understand the concept of such shows. Obviously people of the counterparty would not tolerate such "nonsense;" therefore, I believe it is safe to say that only members of that particular party is tuning in. But what good would it do for collecting more votes if the viewing audience is already your supporter? Or how does it contribute in clarifying the truth when you do not allow the voice of the opposite? In my opinion, this is no different from masturbation, where, essentially, YOU are the only one happy. (Please forgive my vulgarity...) It does not contribute in anything but strengthening the separation among people. But as I said, my mom loves it, so.... The election ended last Saturday and we have selected our new leader. I am happy to see that no riots have broken out and the results have been thus far peaceful. And with the inauguration of our newly elected president, maybe peace will fall in my family as well. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 123.194.153.221 ※ 編輯: army 來自: 123.194.153.221 (03/24 13:59)
