[Mind] African Sun
African Sun
It was the last time, she knew
as she walked the long carpeted floor
her personals wheeling behind her
she turned to the row of windows
on the right, as long as the building goes
It was always morning, when she went
alone red-eyed past the check-in
with the cold freshness of daybreak
lingering in the atmosphere
step step toward the boarding gate
Before long there was another time
when she was a transit off the Bird
when it was indeed just daybreak
as the sun rose and the quietness of a
cafeteria lifted away with the rising shine
That would be the second last time,
she thought then as she day-dreamed of
a local Steven and the many kinds of
African Sun which rise and fall each day
of which she had seen a few only
What about the red hot disc at the
end of a never-ending dust road which
she saw through the tell-tales of a
girl who was brave and stubborn
enough to have traveled Namibia?
What about the elongated orange rays
from the end of a vast Safari with
silhouttes of wildlife moving like
spirits of Mother Nature around the
Baobab tree captured on film?
What about the morning-misted Quad with
garden lights by the gate still lit
and with a turn of mind, cleared
swiftly by the golden warmth coming
from the sky above?
Countless and endless scenary
drift through time and space of
memory as she saluted beyond the
limit of windows, for the last time,
she knew, as she saluted the African Sun
