Quantum of Solace – Slight Disappointment
Maybe that is because the last episode Casino Royale is that great, or maybe that is because the trailer of Quantum of Solace looks rather exciting, I dare not to say I am satisfied with this episode.
I think the problem is the way the director talks the story. Frankly speaking, the plot is not that complicated; the villain is not hidden and the conspiracy is not significant. However, the director, Marc Forster fails to talk it in a consistent and understandable manner.
The first inconsistence comes when Camille shows up. It seems that since then the point of story move to her revenge rather than Bond’s. Moreover, I thought it should be the focus to trace the “organization”; if Greene is just a small part, I hardly understand why Bond persist fight against him.
A lot of interactions and reactions are unreasonable. For instance I do not understand why, at their first seeing each other, Camille “just” gives Bond a shot and drives away, but not kills him; and why Consular Strawberry turns out to help Bond and why Bond dare to leave the consular in the dangerous party alone and let her got killed finally.
Further, similar depiction repeats too much: Bond’s disobedience and impetuosity, followed by M’s anger and order of call-back, and then followed by Bond’s working-in-my-own-way style, and another circle repeats. Such a line is intriguing in Casino, but comes dry in this episode. I even hoped that M could really arrest Bond and put him into trial finally.
Anyway, set aside the flaws above, the film is still spectacular. The action parts are good. Denial Craig’s facial expression is an awesome reflection of the figure’s feeling, especially when it repeals that he can not sleep. The Bond girl Camille is quite good. She reminds me of 朱茵 in somewhat angles.
In sum, it is not a satisfactory work by still an acceptable one. It seems there will be the third episode for the organization Quantum. I think I still go seeing that.
