I had read an interesting story from the book Complete Enlightenment today, it just like an animal tale that the three animals elephant, horse and hare, their want to across the river. Because the body size of elephant is big and large, after across, he knew the depth of this river; compare with elephant, the body size of horse is smaller than it, after across the river, the horse had not clue how deep the middle river is? It just knew the depth of the river's bank; and hare, the small one who just swam across the river, he totally know nothing about the depth of the river. In the story, the river means the lifetime of people or all sentient beings, And the elephant means Buddha; the horse means Bodhisattva; the hare, all sentient beings. I love this story and after read it, I just remember that in the ancient time, there had an giant animal called wooly mammoth which was much larger than African or Asian elephant, in this case, we could called them the ancient Buddha, because they could also across the same river that elephant, horse and hare acrossed, and know how deep it is without doubt. -- 必有一得。 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 59.105.25.230
