Yes, that's a good idea. Staring with some short essay or news report, you can
get urself familiar with correct tone/pronunciation/accent.

You need to speak as much as you can to maintain the language sense.
Visit English corner frequently or talk to some foreigners directly when you
have a chance. Moreover, you can try to watch some Hollywood films in English
w/o subtitiles to gain the sense and try to recite some wonderful talks.
