'The following appeared in a letter to an editor.
"In many countries, wood is the primary fuel used
for heating and cooking, but wood smoke can cause
respiratory and eye problems,
and extensive use of wood causes deforestation,
a major environmental problem. In contrast, charcoal,
made by partially burning wood in a controlled process,
is a fuel that creates less smoke than wood does. Moreover,
although charcoal costs slightly more than wood, less charcoal
is needed to produce the same amount of heat.
Therefore, people who use wood as their primary fuel can,
without experiencing economic hardship, switch to charcoal
and can thereby improve their health and preserve the environment."
'在許多的國家中,木材是用於取暖燒飯的主要燃料,
然而燒木材產生的煙會引起呼吸及眼睛方面的疾病,
並且,大量使用木材會導致濫墾。相對的,活性碳,
一種在控管過程下部份燃燒木材而成的燃料,可產生較少的煙。
雖然,使用活性碳的花費較木材多,
但使用較少量的活性碳就可以生成等量的熱,因此
,沒有經濟問題的人們可轉為使用活性碳以保障健康及保護環境。
