I am not surprised. I have heard of similar ridiculous thing happening in somewhere in that country. I would be more interested in the answer the student can give to the question that 'what is PhD?' Anyway, to get a PhD needs long time. If you spend time to get somebody a PhD, why not leave it alone and go to upgrade yourself to be a doctor? I would share a sentence I learned when I was a high school student: There is no king in mathematics. My teacher said that it was from a Greek mathematican speaking to his student, who was a king. He implied that you cannot ask anybody to learn something for yourself... Anyway... How much should they pay you? or how much do you worth? How can anybody know? if you even don't know the answer. Have not you ever realised this is not just you make some money by working for somebody. In fact, you are taking some money to ruin the school's credit, to get the high education environment worse (has been already bad...) and to leave you and the guy a very vulnerable past to be attacked some day... I personally won't take such job that to be honset, no matter how much money.
