Aug 19 (Reuters) - Tesla (TSLA.O) CEO Elon Musk is quietly pumping the brakes
on plans to start a third political party and told allies he wants to focus on
his companies and is reluctant to alienate powerful Republicans, The Wall
Street Journal reported on Tuesday.

Musk is also considering using some of his vast financial resources to back U.
S. Vice President JD Vance if he decides to run for president in 2028, the
newspaper reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
據知情人士透露，《華爾街日報》還報導，馬斯克正考慮動用部分龐大財力，支持美國副
總統 J.D. Vance 若在 2028 年決定參選總統。
Reuters could not immediately verify the report. Tesla and the White House did
not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Musk launched his America Party in early July, after U.S. President Donald
Trump signed his self-styled "big, beautiful" tax-cut and spending bill into
law. Musk had fiercely opposed the bill and lobbied against it.
馬斯克在 7 月初成立了「美國黨」（America Party），時機正好是在美國總統川普簽署
其自稱「偉大而美麗」的減稅與支出法案後。馬斯克曾強烈反對該法案，並積極遊說反制
。
"Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom", he wrote
in an X post after the bill was passed.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Commerce Department said on Tuesday it is
hiking steel and aluminum tariffs on more than 400 products including wind
turbines, mobile cranes, appliances, bulldozers and other heavy equipment,
along with railcars, motorcycles, marine engines, furniture and hundreds of
other products.
華盛頓（路透社）——美國商務部週二表示，將提高對逾400項產品的鋼鋁關稅，涵蓋風
力渦輪機、移動式起重機、家電、推土機及其他重型設備，以及鐵路車廂、摩托車、船舶
引擎、家具等數百種產品。
The department said 407 product categories are being added to the list of “
derivative” steel and aluminum products covered by sectoral tariffs, with a
50% tariff on any steel and aluminum content of these products plus the
country rate on the non-steel and non-aluminum content.
該部門表示，407項產品類別將被納入「衍生」鋼鋁產品的關稅清單，這些產品的鋼與鋁

Evercore ISI said in a research note the move covers more than 400 product
codes representing over $200 billion in imports last year and estimates it
will raise the overall effective tariff rate by around 1 percentage point.

The department is also adding imported parts for automotive exhaust systems
and electrical steel needed for electric vehicles to the new tariffs as well
as components for buses, air conditioners as well as appliances including
refrigerators, freezers and dryers.
商務部還將汽車排氣系統零件與電動車所需的電工鋼納入新關稅，另涵蓋公車、空調的零
組件，以及冰箱、冷凍櫃、烘乾機等家電。
A group of foreign automakers had urged the department not to add the parts,
saying the U.S. does not have the domestic capacity to handle current demand.
多家外國汽車製造商曾敦促商務部不要將這些零件納入清單，理由是美國國內產能不足以
滿足當前需求。
Tesla unsuccessfully asked Commerce to reject a request to add steel products
used in electric vehicle motors and wind turbines, saying there was no
available U.S. capacity to produce steel for use in the drive unit of EVs.
特斯拉曾要求商務部駁回將用於電動車馬達與風力渦輪機的鋼材納入清單的建議，但未成

The new tariffs take effect immediately and also cover compressors and pumps
and the metal in imported cosmetics and other personal care packaging like
aerosol cans.

"Today’s action expands the reach of the steel and aluminum tariffs and shuts
down avenues for circumvention – supporting the continued revitalization of

for Industry and Security Jeffrey Kessler.
