Sorry 用推文比較難解釋
先把這句拆回兩個句子
1. I spent the years working with the children's home.
2. The years were the most rewarding of my life.
首先要知道 the years 是 spent 的受詞
再來 when = during which
所以你選B的話，句子會變成
The years during which I spent working with......
如此一來，which 就變成了 during 的受詞了，而不是spent
基於"及物動詞後面必須接受詞"的原則，那就只能選A了
