All three types of blood cells (erythrocytes, leukocytes, and platelets) are
formed from a common pluripotent stem cell located within the bone marrow.
Pluripotent stem cells mature and can differentiate into a variety of cells
with specific functions. As the pluripotent stem cells are actively
proliferating and become increasingly committed to a specific cell line,
they become progenitor cells. Human growth factors regulate the proliferation,
differentiation, and maturation of stem cells and progenitor cells by
activating signaling proteins within the cell after binding to receptors
on the cell membrane. Stem cells can mobilize out of the bone marrow into
circulating blood and can undergo programmed cell death, or apoptosis.
骨髓中的多能幹細胞可發育成三種類型的紅細胞：紅血球、白血球以及血小板。
成熟的多能幹細胞可分化出不同類型的細胞，在生物體的不同部位執行其專一性
的功能。例如多能幹細胞在經過不斷的增生與分化後，可形成前驅細胞。人體的
生長因子可透過細胞內訊息蛋白對於細胞膜受體的結合而調節幹細胞與前驅細
胞的增生、分化及成熟。幹細胞可自骨髓進入到血液循環系統內，同時它亦能承
受計畫性細胞死亡或細胞萎凋機制1的洗禮。
When bacteria attach to surfaces and colonize them, their phenotypes change.
They show, for instance, a decreased susceptibility to disinfectant and an
increased exopolysaccharide production, and the community they form is called
biofilm. The quantity of microorganism transferred from inert surface to
a food likely depends on the properties of the biofilm: the surface density
of the microbial population, the structure of the biofilm, its capacity to
produce exopolysaccharides, and the attachment strength of the microbial cells.
當細菌接觸到物體表面並開始繁殖時，它們就會改變其表現型：對消毒劑的抗性
提高以及細胞外多聚糖的增加。這種生命形式的表達，我們稱之為生物膜。微生
物要能從無生命物體傳送到食物上，取決於該微生物之生物膜特性：物體表面之
菌落密度、生物膜之結構、細胞外多聚糖合成之能力以及細菌的附著能力。
