Research Associate Department of Computer Science Salary Grade 7 - £30,594 to £35,469 p.a. (It is likely that appointment will be made at the lower end of the scale) Fixed Term Contract from March 2009 to January 2013 Ref: R4095 Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work with Dr. Effie Law and Prof. Thomas Erlebach on the EC-funded technology-enhanced learning (TEL) project “ROLE: Responsive Open Learning Environments”. The overall aim of ROLE is to deliver and validate prototypes of highly responsive technology-enhanced learning environments, offering breakthrough levels of effectiveness, flexibility, user-control and mass-individualisation. It will advance the state of the art of several related domains: human resource management; self-regulated and social learning; psycho-pedagogical theories for adaptive education; service composition and orchestration; ICT-enabled lifelong learning. ROLE's generic framework uses an open source approach, interoperable across software systems and technologies. A tool/service created by an individual can become a shared item of a pool accessible to all learners via the Internet. Results of ROLE will be disseminated to the targeted international markets in Higher Education and corporate training. In this project, the University of Leicester assumes a significant role in requirements analysis, learning services implementation and user-based evaluation. Applicants should have or be nearing completion of a PhD in the field of Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, Psychology, Education or a related subject, and have good knowledge and skills in ICT. Applicants should have a research record in requirements analysis, Web services/Web2.0 for TEL, and evaluation methodologies for TEL and usability/user experience. It is also desirable to have a basic understanding of psycho-pedagogical theories for TEL.
