The major focus of the laboratory is to investigate the molecular mechanisms of translational regulation and non-canonical functions of the ribosome in mammalian systems. Multiple projects are available: (1) developing and applying high-throughput sequencing approaches to characterize in vivo dynamics of the ribosome and RNA-binding proteins; (2) exploring non-canonical functions of the ribosome in signal transduction; (3) characterizing local translation-coupled RNA decay and protein quality control. The position offers rigorous training opportunities in multiple disciplines to build a new high impact research program. Recent relevant publications: Ribosome collisions trigger general stress responses to regulate cell fate. Cell. 2020 High-resolution ribosome profiling defines discrete ribosome elongation states and translational regulation during cellular stress. Mol Cell. 2019 eIF5A functions globally in translation elongation and termination. Mol Cell. 2017 Qualifications: Applicants should hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree. Students who expect to receive their degree are encouraged to apply. While expertise in RNA biology, cell biology, or molecular biology is desirable, highly curious candidates from other areas who are enthusiastic about learning new skills are encouraged to apply.
