Any participation by the Taliban, however, frightens many women.

Before being toppled by the US invasion of 2001, the Taliban governed
Afghanistan for nearly five years with a strict interpretation of Shariah law.
塔利班以嚴苛的伊斯蘭教法治理阿富汗近五年，直到2001年被美軍的入侵行動所推翻為止
。
“We still remember how hard it was to be a woman under Taliban rule,”
says Naweeda Bayat, a 25-year-old from central Jaghori district. “I was a
kid, but I remember they burned our school right in front of our eyes.”
「我們依然記得在塔利班的治理下，當個女人有多辛苦，」Naweeda Bayat如此說道，她
25歲，來自中央Jaghori行政區。「當時我還是個孩子，但我仍記得他們直接當著我們的面
把學校燒掉。」
