Re: on the issue of morality
I wish to raise the issue of morality, and I firstly quote some comments
made by our boardmates:
※ 引述《eGoddess ([Object Not Found])》之銘言:
: Paying visits to prostitutes is nothing to be ashamed of. Prostitution
: is one of the oldest professions in the world. That it is now still
: practiced worldwide tells you that it is meeting a 'demand' whether
: people want to admit it or not; it would not have flourished otherwise,
: just like any other businesses.
Another extract (sorry I did not recall your ID)
: For prostitue, as long as you wear condom, it should be fine.
: All you have lose is small money.
The obviusly question to start with is, how do you feel about prostitutes?
Do you think that they are just "one of the oldest professions in the
world"? That there is nothing wrong with the industry in general. Or simply
as a way to express your frustrations? Or to lose a small amount of money
to achieve whatever purpose?
But I question you, is there really nothing wrong with prostitution?
Should we have a brothel next to an elementary school? Would you like to
have your apartment right next to a brothel? How would you feel if your
neighbor is a prostitute and seeks "customers" in your front door???
If you feel that there is something not quite right about any of the
suggestions that I gave you above, then either consciously, or subconsciously,
you agree that there is a moral element to prostitution, meaning that
most people would feel that there is something wrong with it, that it's just
not right. And that the feeling would remain regardless of whether there
is a specific law against it or not.
This debate could go on forever. But all I want to do here, is list the few
major things that I think are wrong with prostitution.
1. Firstly, to rebut the "old profession" argument. Just because something
has happened for a long time doesn't mean that it's right. Slavery existed
for a long time, is that the right thing?
2. I see prostitution as a form of oppression on women. Perhaps that's an
extreme view, but really, how many women voluntarily chose such a career,
and more importantly, how many of them would be proud of what they're doing?
3. This is probably from a Christian idea. Although I'm not a Christian, I
would like to propose this idea (yes, and laugh if you like), that sex is
sacred. Maybe not so much to say that it should only be within a marriage,
but I would still support the idea that it should be about love.
I would be able to go on even further, but I think I will stop here, before
everyone gets bored of reading haha~ But needless to day, I do not support
prostitution at all...
