※ 引述《douglash (結束了..)》之銘言: : I am not disagreeing on your words, : but...if you mentioned diminishing returns : you remind me of something like economies of scale and scope~ : maybe the more you learn or think , the easier you do. : maybe the broader knowledge you have, the better your study or work.. : I also frequently think some learning is too redundant.. : and learning selectively something relevant is what i'm trying : however...what's relevant...? Ihave no choice but to judge by myself. : as for work, I just can hope what I do is good for it... Firstly, you are more than welcome to disagree with me ^^ It would make the discussion more vibrant if we have something to argue about, haha~ But anyway, when I speak of dimilishing returns, yeah, that's an economic term. And (no offence to anyone who loves economics), I am no big fan of the subject, with my personal opinion being that most of it is over- simplified and theoretical to ever be all that useful or preductive of real life. But still, I think it's true that the more you study, the less you get out of it - in terms of the grades that you receive for a particular subject. Note my big qualification. In saying that, I think I'm being rather disrespectful of the actual subject that you are studying, and knowledge itself. I remember once being asked a question by a philosophy lecturer: Is knowledge worthwhile in itself? He said yes. Yet I mumbled under my breath: no... I mean, I'm not necessarily disagreeing with him, but I think the reality is simply too harsh for me to look at it all that idealistically. Pressures from society. How do people judge you by? It seems that the only objective criteria of your abilities is by your academic achievements. So then comes the distinction between "useful" knowledge and "useless" knowledge. I think that is ridiculous. But I have no chice. When you are so overwhelmed, so over-loaded by information, you have to be very selective and skillful, and this is the result. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 222.153.79.140
