X'mas is just another day... Even tho I have been to states for couple years and had been thru 7 X'mas.. but, I don't find X'mas romatic.. tho!! it is like Chinese New Year... X'mas is defintely not for lover.. :) I think we eatern countries take it the wrong way. However, I find it lonely since all my friends go home for the holiday.. I could only be at home and play video games or watch DVDs.. I really get not much to do there especially when it is a white X'mas.. Now, I am backed into Taiwan... I find it stupid.. Is it just another day to create a business opportunity? Well, I guess I am too old for romatics... However, I wish all people on the board will have a great X'mas... a great gathering with your family.. ※ 引述《obiter (加油)》之銘言: : It's December... My favorite month of the year ^^ : What are you planning to do for Christmas this year? : Maybe I should begin by asking, what does Christmas mean to you? : To religious people, Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. : They might attend special church services and functions to commenmorate the : festival, where the story from the bible would be re-told in many different : forms. : To the general Western culture, regardless of whether people are Christians or : not, Christmas has taken on a special meaning, and has become part of their : culture, similar to Chinese New Year for us. During this time, people get a : long holiday, from school, from work. It's mostly about families getting : together, reuniting after another busy year, catching up on each other's lives. : To the Western culture, Christmas is also about the exchange of Christmas : cards, gifts, and lots and lots of food. :) Every year, people spend a lot : of time and money preparing gifts for their family and friends. They also : send out a lot of Christmas cards. : To Asians, or more specifically, to young Taiwanese people, what does : Christmas mean? : I was browsing through some articles people have written, and I see a rather : interesting perception of Christmas. Christmas seems to have taken on a : meaning which appears to me to be closer to Valentines Day. People are : busy making plans for a romantic Christmas with their boyfriend/girlfriend, : or even use it as an opportunity to ask out someone that you like. At the : very least, it's treated as a chance to go somewhere and have fun with your : friends. And then you see people complaining, and feeling sad that they have : nowhere to go for Christmas, and have to stay at home and feel very lonely. : I'm not really making any comments, or judging on which perception of : Christmas is correct or better. Just thought these differences are quite : interesting to observe. : What does Christmas mean to you? -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.229.24.56
