I teach English,too.
My suggestion is that, maybe you can speak Chinese to explain the grammar,
and give the children several sentences for examples.
I usually teach like this:
1. you wirte down the "sentece pattern" on the board
--- I have (number) ________(s).
2. Before you speak Chinese, you have to say "theacher speak Chinese "
3. then you explain the verb "have" and also teach S the form in Chinese
I have We have
You have You have
He has They have
She has
4. Next, you write several examples on the board, like:
I have ten pencils.
She has two brothers.
You have one computer.
5. After that, you can ask S to translate these sentences into Chinese, and see
if they understand or not.
6. If they can translate very well, try to ask S to make their own sentences,
if they don't, you say again "teacher speak Chinese," and explain one more
time.
That's my experience, maybe you can give it a try. ^_^
