After struggling hard with my assignment for couple of weeks , I need to breathe some fresh air outside of the self-contained campus. Therefore, i joined th Lincoln trip today held by international office. In the beginning, i had no ideas about anything of this plac e. But in order to make our trip more fun, I did some research last night. (based on my experience, if i didn't know any of the historic background of the place, i could just wander off with little interest). Lincoln city is a full of contrasts place with antiques and mordern arts and buildings. As approaching this lovely city, you can not help being drawn by the mignificent cathedral stretching to the skies. Many fine specialist shops including boutiques, antique, craft, book and gift shops line the cobbled streets. In Lincolnshire there are two main waterways, Car Dyke and Foss Dyke. Car Dyke connected the River Nene, east of Peterborough, with the River Witham. The Foss Dyke connected the River Witham with the River Trent. Before starting our journey, We stopped at a local bakery and bought some savoury sausage rolls 2 for 89 pennies. The prices in Lincoln is quit lower than Coventry. The sausage rolls seem to be one of the tradiional English snacks. Wherever you go, you always can it in local bakeries. Also, We did lots of window shopping in those local special craft shops and modern galleries. It worth mentioning that there is a specialized tea shop. When we passed the shop. We are all drawn by its staring shop sign with red characteristic "吞" on the black bottom. . It sells various tea and coffee, and even some of the tea are from Taiwan. In addition, there are lots of second hand bookshops over there. People can find all kinds of books at a low price in those shop. My roomate Opal bought a lovely picture book, containing lots of famous art works. As for me, I bought a famous novel "Island" there. Besides shopping, we also visited the world famous Lincoln cathedral. It was built in A.D.1072, Over hundred years, the cathedral is a beautiful result of several times reconstruction now. The outer walls still keep its Early English Gothic style. Overall, I like the savor of the mixing antique and modern atmosphere of Lincoln town a lot. Although it is not a very famous spot in England, it is a nice place w orthy to visit, where people can always find anything they want. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 137.205.78.169
