In your case, sounds like you are a bilingual, who has equal competence in
both languages. As bilinguals, you should be intelligent enough to judge
the circumstance and which language is more appropriate to communicate. Why
do people need "pretentions"? All you have to do is to decide if the person
you are communicating with can get through what is meant by you. Little do I
know that using a language is so "energy-consuming." Just be spontaneous and
natural. A piece of advice. Cheers.
