[Talk] Haruki Murakami
Is anyone here a fan of his work?
A lot of this novels are also translated into English,
so if you are familiar with his work, I am sure re-reading his novel
in English would be interesting and beneficial to English reading skill.
For beginners I highly recommend "After Dark", I read the English version
and I was surprised to see that it wasn't as awkward as I imageined it
would be.
The narration of the city and the streets, the upcoming and
on goning night of Tokyo, the conversation between Mari and Takahashi,
and the description of the room where Eri is deeply asleep... When I first
read them in Chinese, translated by Mrs. Lai, the wording and the sentence
structure made me feel like I was reading a detective story XD
When I read it the second time in Japanese, I guess the female speech pattern
added more room for romance. When I read it the third time in English,
I felt like the story itself has become something else, something I've never
read before. Even thought I already know exactly how the plot will proceed,
but reading it in a language I am not totally familiar with make it feel like
a new book...
"After Dark" is the first Murakami book I read, and at that time I was
in love with someone... so I guess that's why this book means so much to me...

yet we also commit sins that would put a demon to shame...
