※ 引述《kagomechan (kagome)》之銘言: : I think gap year is especially important for youngsters that maybe haven't : found what they are passionate about. I think that by taking a year off and : discovering your true self (passion, interest, beliefs), you will have a : better idea of what you want in life and therefore have a better idea of : whether you actually need a college education. : Too many college students don't know why they are getting a college education : in their particular majors....it's not only a waste of their time, but also a : waste of educational resources! : It's better to have a clear goal before going into college, wouldn't you say? : ※ 引述《sillypore (El Dorado)》之銘言: : : The original article: : : http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,2015783,00.html : : Time Out: Gauging the Value of a Gap Year Before College : : by Time Magazine... : : It seems the Americans start taking gap years before college : : but I believe this is quite common for youngsters from Europe. : : I just met some Germany lads bicycling across the States : : at one WMATA station of D.C. In the conversation I wished them : : good luck and discussed what they must visit when they : : arrived the West Coast ^_* : : But for Taiwanese youngsters, they must deal with lots of visa issues : : before starting the journey... alas... I dont know if this is a contrary opinion. I totally agree that not so many students decide their goal right after the high school graduation. But there lies the concern that the students might become a slacker in the gap year, which worsens the situation. I would suggest the college freshman travel around in the summer before their first college semester. To learn from travel, you gotta have the sensitivity to the surrounding wherever you go, optimistically I suppose Taiwanese students have this sense. The most important thing is to be adjust yourself to the more professional curriculum in the college, and keep track of your own expertise to see whether your improvement makes you fit in the job you wanna do in the future(that's why the internship between semesters is vital.) If not, then reconsider another type of career in your field, or just simply jump to the whole new different field. If I'm in the dilemma, I would remind myself with my own recipe of encouragment, "Go for what you want immediately, cuz you never know if tomorrow will be the end of your life." -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.112.212.99
